Sean Parker: Apple Tried To Keep Spotify Out Of The U.S.

Answering a question for Spotify CEO Daniel Ek at AllThingsD’s D10, Spotify director Sean Parker confirmed that “there was some indication” that Apple tried to keep Spotify out of the U.S. market.
“There was some indication that was happening,” Parker said, “It’s a very small industry in a lot of ways, certainly smaller than it was 12 years ago,” he joked.
“We’re in constant re-negotiating so you hear things. People send you emails,” he said not divulging any further detail, “Apple was threatened by what we were doing,” Parker said, implying that Apple eventually got over that threat, as Spotify eventually did end[...]

Earlier this morning at D10 KPCB analyst Mary Meeker showed a pretty definitive slide about the current state of the public markets with regards to tech companies. “The private market is in a bubble,” Meeker said, “We have a $1 billion fund, and didn’t invest once in Q1 because the valuations too crazy.”The problem with these valuations is that public market investors are more skeptical, Meeker asserted bringing up the above slide comparing the IPOs of Facebook, Zynga, Groupon, Pandora and LinkedIn. Countries in Asia and the Indian subcontinent are far outpacing the U.S. and Europe when it comes to tech adoption, according to stats published today by analyst demigod Mary Meeker.
The report shows massive growth, both in data-capable cell phones and Internet adoption, in countries like Japan, China, the Philippines, India, and Korea. While the U.S. is still leading in the total number of 3G mobile subscribers and the total number of Internet users for a single country, it’s clear that other regions are gearing up to swipe those titles, and fast.
