Samsung, Apple Walk Away With 90 Percent Of Smartphone Profits In Q1 2012, Says ABI Research

Posted by TechCrunch
Despite the rapid growth of the smartphone market (41 percent YOY, to be exact), Samsung and Apple are the only smartphone makers really enjoying this growth. Combined, they took home 55 percent of global smartphone shipments in the first quarter of 2012. More importantly, they’re walking away with 90 percent of the market’s profits.
Surprisingly, however, Samsung and Sony were the only OEMs to see any sequential growth in shipments. Even more surprising, RIM (of all companies) is set to surpass Nokia, despite the fact that both companies saw a decrease in shipments, 20 percent and 40 percent respectively.

Wow: Working Apple 1 motherboard sells for $374K in auction

Even though it would be worth next-to-nothing without its historical roots, an original Apple 1 motherboard sold for an eye-popping $374,500 today at a Sotheby’s auction.
Sotheby’s believes the motherboard is one of a handful that still are in working condition. “It is thought that fewer than 50 Apple 1 Computers survive, with only 6 known to be in working condition,” Sotheby’s notes.

The news of what Habbo is calling “The Great Unmute” will also be used as a chance to get user feedback on the state of the site and how it should develop, according to ablog postpublished today by Sulake’s CEO, Paul LaFontaine. He also took the opportunity to claim that some journalists have been using the opportuni[...]
