Fedora Linux 17 'Beefy Miracle' Makes Its Official Debut
Posted by PCWorld
It was just a few short weeks ago that I wrote about the beta release of Fedora Linux 17, but on Tuesday the free and open source operating system--also known as “Beefy Miracle”--made its widely anticipated final debut.
“I am extremely proud of the Fedora 17 release,” said Robyn Bergeron, Fedora Project Leader, in a statement.
With the addition of projects such as oVirt and JBoss Application Server 7, enhancements in OpenStack, and continued support for fresh releases of desktop environments, Fedora 17 is “a comprehensive and robust operating system for all types of users,” Bergeron added.
I had a chance to speak with Bergeron this morning about Fedora 17 and all that it adds to the popular[...]

E3 Rumor: Sony Partnering With Cloud Gaming Provider
Posted by TechCrunch
According to a very short, very rumor-filled VG24/7 piece, Sony is looking at adding cloud-enabled gaming to the PlayStation line, presumably in the form of an Onlive or Gaikai partnership.
Given that we won’t see much new this year at E3 – aside for official Wii U availability and perhaps (just perhaps) whispers of next gen Sony and Microsoft consoles, this bit of news could carry the show. The Vita is powerful, to be sure, but it’s hardly nailing it in terms of game availability and to be able to play a game on the handheld and then pop over to the console is pretty compelling. Presumably the console can also act as a conduit for a definitively more interesting gaming exp[...]

How badly did Microsoft want Flash in Windows 8? Enough to work with Adobe for crazy deep integration
Posted by VentureBeat
More than ever before, Adobe Flash will be a core part of the Windows experience in Windows 8.
Flash will be built-in to Internet Explorer 10, the browser that ships with Windows 8, and it will even be updated through Windows Update — something not commonly seen for third-party applications. Now a leaked memo from Adobe VP Danny Winokur, first reported by The Verge, reveals why Microsoft was so hell-bent on making Flash an integral part of its new operating system.
In regards to rumors that Microsoft licensed Flash to make the Windows 8 integration possible, Winokur said, “That is not the case. Microsoft received strong customer feedback that Flash is an important part of the Met[...]

Google product search results get a commercial bias
Posted by VentureBeat
Google Shopping, a revamp of Google’s Product Search, promises online consumers a digital shopping trip with a little more convenience and context, but introduces commercial bias into the experience.
Google announced today that it would be trading out its former product search feature for product listing ads in a wholly commercial initiative called Google Shopping. Under the new model, merchants and retailers will have to pay to feature their products in front of Google searchers.
The transition, which starts today with experimental paid product boxes on Google search pages, will be completed by the fall.
Google Shopping product results will take the form of comparison shopping boxes a[...]
